The Elections in Punjab are frequently bipolar with power fluctuating between the BJP alliance and the Indian National Congress. The regional parties have so far failed to produce a recognizable impact on the public and in securing positions. Because of the recent decline of the Congress party’s popularity in the nation, it is expected that these elections will see a shift in power towards the regional parties. After completing two consecutive years in power, the BJP-SAD alliance has also risen into question as a strong party in the state. Voters looking for a change may opt for the free candidates and the regional parties to see a change in rule and some reforms. A contender that stands a strong chance of rising to this opportunity is the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The party got a positive response from the state when all four of its contenders won from their maiden seats. A satisfying performance in the 2014 Lok Sabha Elections has also led the party to a stronger foothold among the voters, making it a chief contender in the state. With the encouraging support of its volunteers in Punjab, AAP is preparing to strike a strong blow to the BJP cover that currently blankets many major cities of the nation. Arvind Kejriwal has been the face of AAP in Punjab till now, as the party continues to search for a suitable candidate as its Chief Ministerial candidate for the state assembly elections of 2017.Currently the Punjab State Legislative Assembly has 117 members chosen from the 117 constituencies of the State. The state trifurcated in 1966 when the Punjab was divided to give birth to Haryana, present day Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. All the latest updates of the Punjab State Assembly elections 2017 can be covered from the leading daily newspapers and media channels. The interested voters can also visit the official website of the state election commission to stay updated on nominees and the list of individual candidates from each constituency of the state from the contesting parties.
